I have a question for Berit form Damixa? Do the winning entries become the property of Damixa? In other words is the Intellectual property transferred to Damixa or does it still belong to the designer/engineer. Also what about the entries that haven't won anything? Does entering the competition automatically mean that Damixa has claim to all the designs?

@Kaspar Kiis - last thing (I hope), If you want to choose by "like button"; for this contest entries you should restart every "likes" that everyone have same chance to win. I agree with Hevi.. I don't think that people will take a look at all the 322 entries to decide wich one they like most..

No more designs without leaving their money in GrabCad for a sure winner. It is my opinion, because scoundrels as Damixa there are too many in the
world, and now even more.
If they want cheap designs that grasp them of which we have loaded on GrabCad, that they are free, but we design that we want design, we musn´t do favors these persons.
Sorry. I´m very angry today...
I propose that in our blogs, on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin .... all these sites, we talk about Damixa to prevent other colleagues laugh at and maybe make it clear that his behavior toward more than 300 people have been nasty.
I will not participate at this time in any other challenge until this issue is not resolved. I hope and wish that my colleagues do something similar or explain here their opinion.
Greetings to all and I feel that these things happen.
Josef Snabb over 1 year ago
Did Damixa backad down? What seriously? This feels really unproffesional and doesn´t look good for Grabcad.
A competition needs a jury. Let some of the Crabcad staff take like the 20 models with most likes and than pick the 6 winners considering best design and function. That would at least be more fair I think.

Andrey Jasiukaitis over 1 year ago
Come on guys! That is a very stupid idea to select a winner by counting "likes".
Pierre over 1 year ago
yes
Chris Duncan over 1 year ago
Winner should be selected by a competent professional design engineer or engineers. "Likes" might reflect a valid winner and it might not, it seems like more of a popularity contest. If you go by likes then you may be adding fail on top of fail.
Disappointed with Damixa to say the least. If they weren't 100% committed to paying then they shouldn't have wasted everyone's time. It's probably an in-house design engineer feeling afraid of losing his job and telling the CCO that none of the designs are workable when he really knows that they are. Recently I've seen some resistance to crowd sourcing from in-house designers I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was the case here. We need to keep an eye on Damixa for the next year or so to make sure none of our design ideas show up in their line-up.
Seriously though, compared to stuff that sells in the states, some of Damixa's current line looks downright ugly to me, including their award winning ARC. If they really want to expand into the world-wide market then they need to open up to some new and different ideas. Maybe it's just that they have such a narrow myopic idea of what a "good" design is they can't see anything else.
I still love this web site. It's just having some growing pains and some hard lessons. 2nd the suggestion that contest holders should leave a deposit and maybe they should be encouraged to look at some of the past contests to see if they think the caliber of designs is going to live up to their expectations. I wonder if this CCO even bothered to do that, or if she just thought, oh well if there's nothing I like then I'll just back out of my promise.

Hi everyone, we are really sorry about that, we will definitely work harder to choose customers for Challenges more carefully. Indrek just wrote the blogpost to describe the situation here - http://blog.grabcad.com/2011/12/grabcad-damixa-challenge-vote-for-the-winner/
The good news is that the winners will get the prices promised and we will pay from our own pockets. We didn't want to be the judges and thought that it would be great if the community can choose the winners.
Azhar over 1 year ago
i would like it if the garbcad team picks the winners from all the entries
John Huizingh over 1 year ago
Like-Dislike system does not work in this case. Do you really think all the participants will download the datat and take a close look at the more than 300 entries. No, they will not. So this means that the winner will be kind of randomly picked which is totally wrong in this case. And like what was already mentioned before, some have uploaded at the first day and have already started with more likes than others.
It should be a jury, GRABCAD staff jury only is fine for me.
I will never ever buy a DAMIXA product anymore by the way. Even if they say now there is nothing that they can use (which is offcourse not true) they still should pay the prices and take their loss. This is commercial also very bad for DAMIXA because it will gain a lot of negative messages on the internet.
Last remark: If DAMIXA feels that they did not get the right result, first of all the assignment is totally wrong and secondly they have had enough time during the process by putting a message in the challenge to guide the designs in the preferred direction. But there was never a comment or remark from this COO.

Other possibility: Do not announce the winners but give every entry a t-shirt. Then you will have 300 happy and understanding engineers and otherwise 6 happy and 294 unhappy...Hopefully 1500 USD is enough for 300 T-shirts...:-)

Idea is very good. GrabCAD judges or TShirts :)
Like/dislike is not fair :( I think that people deon;t even read the rules for this competition... they just hit like like like like...
Philip Gilbanks over 1 year ago
I agree with the majority, GrabCAD T-shirts for all entries is a much fairer way in this case. It is con siderably noticeable that the entries on the final page have far less Likes than those on the first page, purely because people get bored of going through the Designs.
Carco over 1 year ago
I also think that perhaps should be a jury in charge of getting GrabCad winners for this contest, but what of the shirts is not a bad idea and they would be cheaper, of course. But we ourselves get bored looking at our designs is something that comes and I do not mind:
If someone is bored deep to see our own designs can leave and take better good Call of Duty games to avoid boredom ... Be serious for once, colleagues.
Regards.

To me it sounds rediculus, that the company decided to back off. Completely insane.
Well, first of all, and this is quite obvious, a lot of companies are spending billions to establish a good name, but those guys just SOLD it for 600 quit!!! Like I havent't participated in this one, but I will never ever in my life have anything to do with them... I think this descision indeed ruined all their branding to nothing... for 600 quit...
Second thing is that this competition, among others, has the greatest outcome both with quantity and quality point of view. I have never seen such outcome and could clame this particular crowdsource as an example of THE Great Success. Besides, that was one of the reason I have not participated: simply when I've opened the entries I found out that I cannot possibly come with something better...
So I would say CONGRATULATIONS to all the guys participating, all entries are wicked (TM WILLIAM)! And good stuff that GrabCad guys for you decided to support this challenge despite everything. I've already voted, so do vote and good luck :)
William over 1 year ago
I am withdrawing my entry to this competition as I have went through all the 322 uploads and I have seen some really great and very impressive concept designs that I think are a lot better then mine and I should not be in second place to to people clicking on the LIKE button. I know this could change @ any time but if I did happen to be won of the winners of this competition. I would want to win it by my design of the model that judges took the time to mark and not by how many LIKES my model got. This is a terrible situation that Damixa has caused this great community. I do respect GrabCAD and there staff for upholding the deal that Damixa promised GrabCAD and all its members. This is just a prime example on how great GrabCAD and it's staff are to keep us the community happy with this wicked web site.
Mark A over 1 year ago
Hi All
Well as are most I’m disappointed with damixa, and I applaud Grabcad decision for honouring the prize and trying to do the right thing,
By the look of some of the amazing entry’s, many people have spent many hours (whether they are starting out with 3d or are Long time Pros) to provide quality designs, and all should be congratulated
Many have stated forgo the prize and just provide a t-shirt for all, which is good but…. I see the T-shirts as trophy to be won, and providing t-shirts to all designers, the trophy become less of a trophy and more of a souvenir (..if grabcad wanted to offer stickers/badges or something else…well that’s another story)
I would be more than happy (as per Williams) suggestions to donate the money, (at least I know the time I spent went for a good cause…)
Well since I have talked enough have a Merry Christmas
And enjoy
Nic over 1 year ago
I must thank the GrabCAD staff for handling this matter in a way that reflects the professionalism of this community. Thanks to all the other GrabCAD'ers who have posted here for showing a little restraint in their comments, I'm sure we all have an arsenal of derisive comments for Damixa at this point, all of which can only lower ourselves to their level.
I think Damixa has only demonstrated their ignorance of the cloud-sourced design exercise. Clients should never expect a complete design study unless every element is precisely defined; usually outside the scope of conceptual design. To say they haven't found anything that meets their needs is strange, surely they could amalgamate a working design from elements of the numerous and varied submissions?
No worries though, we're an international community of skilled and connected individuals, there will be consequences. I may not know much about bathroom/kitchen fixtures and their manufacturers, but I now know one thing, Damixa won't be seeing the inside of any of my, or my friends', future establishments. Worth the $1500 Damixa? I think not.
Andrey Jasiukaitis over 1 year ago
I agree with William about money donation to kids. It would be a perfect Christmas gift from grabcad users.
Chris Duncan over 1 year ago
Bravo William for what you did. You restore my faith in people after the CCO at Damixa tried to ruin it!! You hang in there and keep Cad-ing, you'll only get better as you go. You deserve some kind of Kudos for the way you support this site. Something more than a T-shirt, they need awards for people with as much positive support as you give this site.
I think there's a silver lining to this Damixa cloud, things are going to shake out and only get better.
There's some really good comments in this thread. Agree that we should not stoop to Damixa's level. But I do think we need to somehow send a message that this was not right.
Aaron over 1 year ago
I've witnessed situations like this before. It usually ends where the company in question just got $100k or more of design time for free along with the next 5-10 designs to put on the shelf. That's some extremely big ego when you can go through over 300 designs from some of the best artistic and engineering minds all over the world and not see anything you like. I've never worked for a company where that even COULD happen.
Aaron over 1 year ago
Probably not a bad idea to watch for new Damixa designs to come out. If you see something familiar, you own it. Since no one was paid or contracted for the work, that design/engineering idea belongs to the designer who posted it up. Not sure how intellectual property laws are handled overseas, but in the states it's a big deal.

William has a very very good idea with the charity option. Let's do this :)

i have deleted my entry.
I think this has been as waste of time for so many of us and i think the only real way for damixa to finish this is if they pay up.
if they dont want to use the concepts that is up to them, but denying to pay and just quit like this is not very professional.
I personally am quite annoyed by this - especially since we dident even get an apollogy fra Damixa

All I am going to say is that the entire 'contest' model of 'getting work done' is fraught with peril for everyone involved except the so called 'client' who is going to get a huge amount of branded work for pennies an hour.
Even if they dont like any of the 300 designs here, some of which are simply great, they still have 300 designs they can now refer to and use in their own development efforts.
It is astounding they would do this over $1500.... Totally lacks anything even remotely like professionalism, respect, or respectability.

and I could not agree more with what you have said Robert.

I didn't read all of the comments. what happened to this challenge ? who is the winner ?
Josef Snabb over 1 year ago
They have announced that on their blog:
http://blog.grabcad.com/2011/12/grabcad-damixa-challenge-vote-for-the-winner/
So the winners will be presented later on today.
Josef Snabb over 1 year ago
About the discussions of the suspiciousness of cheating in the voting process, I have been in contact with staff on Grabcad and they was going to check entry likes and profiles created during the voting process to avoid potential cheating.
Let the best entries win! =)

GrabCAD has announced the winners. Due to the cheating by some of the users the winners were chosen by most likes done before 12th December- just before it was announced in GrabCAD blog.
Congratulations to all the winners and thank you for everybody who participated in the contest.

Sorry, I make a small correction. We counted likes done by users registered into GrabCAD before 12th December 2011. This will eliminate the likes by users who created an account to give likes to their own model.

I am glad that this "issue" got resolved and the more honourable outcome was chosen. @William, i agree whole heartedly that the most gentlemen-like thing would be to donate the prize money to those kids who have nothing in order to give them a better christmas. That just struck home to me and absolutely melted my heart :) William, i have so much respect for you, you are probably my favorite engineer/cad user on this amazing site.
Also congrats on the win :)))

According to the results on where we know

Since almost all the users that commented said it shouldn't be a popularity contest.
From a purely clinical perspective I say this entry was the clear winner. It met all the requirements of the contest. Very few of all the entries did so.
Concept: Joint Touch
John Huizingh over 1 year ago
Chris: which requirements do you mean: ?? This is the first sentence of the challenge:
There are no hard requirements, Be creative and show what you can come up with
Chris Duncan over 1 year ago
John: No "hard" requirements does not mean "no" requirements
what is better the creative design that meets all the requirements,
or the one that does not?
this reminds me of the fashion industry, it's not what you know
it's who you know.
1.Compatible with the ARC line.
2.One handle mixer
3.Innovative
4.Functionality
5. Ergonomics.
6. Follow Danish line
7. User friendly
It's not that hard to meet at least some of the requirements and
still be creative
It's not that big a deal really, ;>) I just think all the valid entries that
got closer to the actual requirements should be at least acknowledged
John Huizingh over 1 year ago
Yes I agree, but then we are getting in the personal opinions quickly I think. Because for example for the entry you mentioned I could agree with you on some requirements in your list but also for some a lot less. But like I said, that is my opinion.

weren't some rules for the challenge ? There are many other good models which can win the contest. It is not fair. I don't tell my design is good enough to win the match. but I saw the winner models , and I didn't see any respectfulness to rules.
Marios Pazaitis over 1 year ago
So did the winner donnate the prize money to charity? lol!
William over 1 year ago
Hi Marios I have not received the prize yet but when I do I will be given it to charity.
It is the right thing to do given the circumstances of this competition.
It is just as well GrabCAD and there staff are so professional how they went about and delt with this comp. Unlike Damixa that caused this great community to go up in arms.
