This is an exact 3D replication of the AK-47 hammer spring. Used a series of splines, and helices to generate the swept path. The profile sketch was then swept and twisted along the path to achieve the braided spring.

Thanks Reimo. To tell you the truth, I could make this model a lot easier and in fewer steps if I did it again. I played around too much planes because I was afraid of 3D-sketch, but now this model could be made using 3D-sketch and helix tools in about 5-10 minutes.
