AESTHETICS:
I wanted to produce a clean, simple design that would appeal equally to either gender. The use of the top face trim accentuates the logo area even when unlit, while providing a break in the colour and lines of the main body. For the overall design, I tried to produce a modern, simple charm style bracelet where, of course, the glowing logo area acts as the charm.
MECHANICAL:
The bracelet is made up of a soft silicone body molded over a harder inner core. It comes together as a single ring but can be pulled open at the break-line to fit over wrist or expose USB port (see USB-expose.jpg). The core provides a closing force on itself to ensure it remains attached, and an extension on the closing arm slots into the main body to increase stability. To expose the USB port, the bracelet should be pulled open, and the closing arm pushed down into the open ring. The natural spring in the core will close the bracelet in on itself slightly so as to avoid it springing open.
MATERIALS:
60A hardness silicon for the main body of the bracelet
50D hardness for the inner core and face trim parts
MANUFACTURING:
Hard silicon parts injection molded in a family tool, and attached to the main body mould. This mould consists of a central core to produce the inside faces of the bracelet, and two sliders to produce the outer ones. The parting line will run along the mid plane (see render - parting.jpeg) but will only be visible on the outer faces.
NOTES:
- Thanks to Verislav Mudrak for the PCB components :)
- Apologies for some of the methods of modeling further down the tree, I got a little rushed to hit the deadline towards the end, but this will be rectified in time!
