Something for my fellow toolmakers...
is this a hot tip sprue bushing? has a huge orifice on the injection carriage side.
This is to allow the plastic on the outside of the orifice to cool and (semi)harden and act as an insulator. This keeps the inner core molten (as with a hotrunner for example). Eliminates wastage as there is no sprue but saves cost as no hotrunner is needed. Often used on larger plastic items such as buckets, bins, etc.
I have a great desire to install Canadian Bush on this mold:
LED street Lamp
This will eliminate ugly runner and an indelible mark... and should improve filling!
But I have never used this design and part was needed in short order ... not for experiments (((
