More or less to scale. This is an unfinished version just used to test out the rendering results. I included the photos and some other renders. Learn from my mistake: files that are mainly monochromotic neutral colors do not make for pretty pictures.
I may or may not finish this model, I am kind of burnt out from spending so much time on it. Not really a big star wars fan, this idea just randomly popped into my head and I was tired of cars/engines.
Chanson - regarding your comment about monocrhomatic objects not being suitable for good pictures - there's probably a lesson or two to be learned from photographers who shoot products for living. It's all about lighting the object, background color, depth of focus… I've seen some awesome shots of gray cars, speakers, furniture etc.
over 1 year agoAnd Tie fighter looks pretty neat. You could try surface material that looks a bit more metallic, right now it feels a bit too much like a tiny plastic model.
over 1 year agoI like it. It looks like a plastic toy but Im not saying that as a bad thing. It looks good! You should try rendering it next to some other toys to give it some scale.
over 1 year agoHere is a quick render, let me know what you think.

over 1 year agoNice Chanson, great amount of detail in that, you really put the effort in.
over 1 year agoAnd it's supposed to be plasticy, it's star wars, it's still more convincing than the original film :)
Scott, it needs a deep space image from Nasa's image bank and someone shooting lasers at it :)
over 1 year agoYeah, I guess I was just drained after a couple hours of adjusting the material and scenary and not getting anything good. Metal has too much sheen to it, it wasn't really looking right, and I don't have a way to adjust the reflectivity. My PSP is probably faster than my computer so that makes everything take longer.
Looking pretty good Scott. The biggest problem for me with this model is how hard it is to get the lighting to look realistic. It either ends up looking like there are ten spotlights, zero shadows, or half the detail is obsured.
Thanks Kev, I really went all out to be accurate. If I spent some time on the wings it would really come together.
over 1 year agoYeah I know how you feel. I'm having similar problems with my District 9 assault rifle. Its mainly flat/matte surfaces so the lighting is hard to get how I want it.
If your ever in the market for a new PC (thats CAD/Rendering worthy) give me a shout! :)
over 1 year agoFunny you should mention. I was shopping recently and had some questions I figured you would be able to answer. I'll be in touch again.
over 1 year agoi like seeing it in different way..^_^ http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/3067/gee371.jpg
over 1 year agoI like it!
over 1 year agoChanson, I spotted your model on one of the recent solar eclipse pictures. You already put it into production? :)

over 1 year agoSiim, those were flight testing photos, not supposed to be released to the public yet. Guess someone leaked them.
over 1 year agoGreat job, I am working on a ship concept from several different Clone Wars ships myself. Well be done with it I hope next week if I have time.
about 1 year agoGood Job!!
about 1 year agoThanks Thanks. Nelson, it will be interesting to see how it turns out. I'll be looking for it.
about 1 year agoNice one!

10 months agoChanson / Scott we found a neat trick to get a good black metal - try selecting glass (basic or frosted) and then changing the colour to black. Requires a bit of adjusment but then they all do...
10 months agoDo you have any renders to share Alex?
