no problem with that it will support the weight + the spring will absorb some forces so i think the design is good

i liked your second version. simple design. easy manufacturable and easy to assemble.

handle (you called rod2) and space there looks so small. 2 cms wide may not bo enough to "handle" it.

and try to change the material except stainless steel. different materials may give you more points ;)

the handle...it more like fore the fingers :D you only have grab the handle and twist to lock it into position:)
