one suggestion...your cylinder and hex parts should have a 37degree bevel on their ends prior to welding, especially if it is a pressure vessel or structural weld. an additional option that is performed prior to welding (mainly TIG) is to have a gap between the parts. 1/8" to 3/16" is typical...this is usually referred to as a full penetration weld.
