How to convert AutoCAD 2012 part file to older AutoCAD files?
My friend currently have 2009 and having troubles opening file because they are done in a newer version, how do I convert them?

its easy...
1.PRESS RIGHT 'CLICK' @ MODEL TAB
2.GO TO OPTIONS
3.CLICK 'OPEN & SAVE'
4.FIND 'SAVE AS'
5.CLICK THE 'BOX'
6.THEN FIND THE LOWEST VERSION OF AUTOCAD 2000/LT2000 DRAWING (*.dwg)
7.PRESS 'OK'
8.THEN TRY TO SAVE YOUR LATEST DRAWING FILE..
THATS IT...DRAWING FILE IS READY TO BE OPENED @ AUTOCAD LOWER VERSIONS

Have you tried Autodesk TruewView - a free download to view and includes DWG Convert - the new version is 2013.

just save as the file in which version you want to save the drawings

If the files are in a newer version then the only way is to use <DWG True View 2011> There maybe 2013 version also, for drawings made in 2013 versions.

just save as & select the version as your requirement. & if you want to be saved permanently in lower version then go to option - click on open & save - select the version from save as tab - click on apply button then click on ok.

I have a similar problem at my job. I have a newer version than the other users. You can set your default save to an earlier version using the Open and Save tab on the options menu in the version that you are using. The first drop down is labeled "Save as:" That way I don't have to continually convert my files.
