this is essentially the same way I create symmetrical models in AuotCAD. although with AutoCAD, I will join the polylines, use them to create a mesh, then revolve the mesh so that it becomes a solid. otherwise, the revolved polyline will create a revolved surface (I don't know why, but I like "solids" better than "surfaces"). I wish I could get my company to buy me SW.
