Feed Request: Airfoil pattern Requested by RocketNut almost 4 years ago

I am looking for a airfoil pattern that I change the size by using Alibre offset function. I am not looking a prec.pattern. I just need it so I can do sizing of the ribs of a variable wing.geometry.

RockeNut -- Try the Alibre user's forum. Just saying "airfoil" does not tell us enough. Do you need a specific ratio foil? If so, what NACA class and type would it be? There are several airfoil examples posted in the Alibre user's forum (http://www.alibre.com/forum).

I am not looking for any ratio or NACA defined wing airfoil. I have tried to come up with a sketch of a wing airfoil but they all come out looking weird. I am working on a model to see if my idea will work or not. When it comes to a point where we will build the actual wing, the finial airfoil will be design by aeronautical engineer.

I have search the form with out results. I have also searched the web, but all those want $$$$. which I can not jussive at this point in the project.

RocketNut -- I say again, search the Alibre user's forum for "airfoil." I know of a couple of threads on the topic (i.e. how to make and control their geometry) in the past few months. The messages I am thinking of have geometry posted with them.

If you still can't find what you need, I have a couple dozen raw airfoils in my records. However, if you are looking for (say) a lift-airfoil, you need geometry for that type. If you are looking for (say) a torsional-airfoil (wind turbine blade, propeller, etc.), you need geometry of that type. While I have designed several airfoils (stints as test/development labs), -I- am primarily a designer of mechanisms and the like.

Hi, if u search the net u will find table representing the coordinates of various airfoil and then you need to import the table to some CAD software to plot the sketch u can check this link: http://www.pdas.com/avd.html

Not really. Because every one thinks I am long for an actual lifting are foil. I am not looking for the fianal airfoil but just the basic shape so I can size to fit the model I am building. Basically there are 4 wing segments that telescope into each other. This basic airfoil is just to see how much room I am going to need. Once I see that the design is feasible then the final airfiol will be designed.

RocketNut: "every one thinks I am long for an actual lifting are foil," Look at my first post. I did differentiate (though I only cited lifting and torsional) types of airfoils. That leaves stabilizing or steering types. If all you want is a minimum airflow energy surface, all you need is a thin-edge quintic-conic surface with a thick enough spar to carry your loads. In terms of telescoping them, take a look at the LAVI adaptive wing program or the WCMD correcting tails. I -STILL- do not know what TYPE of airfoil you wish.

Hi RocketNut, hope you haven't given up on our requests just yet. I'll ping our Twitter feed to see if there's anyone out there with a simple airfoil shape you could then modify to your needs.

Can someone give him the NACA 6412 shape. I'll calc it up if no one has it.

If it is just for layout purposes I just uploaded a file. Cartoonish, but skin and skeleton is there. wing

Not Alibre, but helpful for others http://grabcad.com/cadfiles/airfoil

Bonus points to Azim for also posting a tutorial video on Youtube.

WOW What a great/info video/tutorial Sim. I wish Alibre had the data points to curve function. I would sure save me a lot of time designing rocket nozzls (especially the AeroSpike design).
Keeping up the great work and it shall not go unrewarded.
