@sayeem: Our system is a spray system (open loop system, not a close loop system) and the counter pressure depends on the downstream part of our system (design consequence). It’s mainly resulting from the pipes diameter downstream to the pump, with strong integration constraint.
Anyway, considering our system, our goal is to regulate a constant water flow during about 10 min. Constant means that the setpoint will only depends on atmospheric pressure and outside temperature but will be constant during the use of the pump.

Question2: Can the entry and by proximity "Airbus and its affiliates" be used as a marketing tool for self-promotion? ie: this is what I designed for a contest for Airbus/Grabcad etc..

I really dont understand the Competition, you know that there are so many water pumps out there that fit your requirements, its like trying to invent the wheel and say its your unique design. You would need a army of patent lawyers to scrutinise your design to see if its not been done before.and Airbus would never ever use a Aircraft part designed in a Forum. All I can say is good luck to members who attempt to do this competition.

@Fahad Rafi - This means that your payment for the submission would be the challenge winnings, there wouldn't be any future royalty payments on the design. Essentially saying that there will be a one time payment rather than numerous future payments.

If the buyer Airbus does not award prize the it is a non purchase. In order to post a project to the competition you are making it public domain. "Only public entries are eligible." Providing the world with "non-exclusive" access. If you do win then they own your idea upon receiving payment.

@Ananth Narayan: with respect to altitude of -2000 ft to 10000 ft, it has to be considered for pump installation conditions.
The pump will use water stored in a tank at the ambient pressure resulting from the operating altitude, then the water will be dispensed in pipes at a pressure increased by 5 bars (minimum) up to 10 bars (desirable).

@Jace Owens: there is no requirement on the amp. value for supplying pump electrical power. It will derive from the combination of delta pressure, mass flow and pump efficiency, considering that the power supplied is under 28VDC.
The installation of the system on our aircraft will take into account the necessary amp. required.

The necessary power to do the job for an efficiency at 100% is +/-200W.
How is piloted the motorisation of the pump (flow control): PWM signal, potentiometer..? Does the operator is located closed to the pump or in the cockpit?

Also, the best technology in this case is the one used in the "karcher": plastic axial piston pump. Also, to stay reliable (leaks) after 10.000 cycles of 10 sec, this is not an easy task (seals wear, leaks...)
To produce a quality job, the delay is very very short...! I do not know yet if it's worth it that I start going to the drawing board!

To me this seems like a really bad deal. Here Airbus is asking you do fully design and vet a ton of requirements, some of which are pretty hard to simulate for. Developing a pump like this seems more like a job for a team of your engineers, not a job done by randoms for a mesely 6 grand. Trying to save on labour cost`?

Fredrik Lie Larsen has uploaded 6 CAD models & has left 26 comments.
  • Francois CHERY

    Francois CHERY 5 days ago

@Tarik C: the pump is expected to be piloted by either an analog input (voltage control for example) or ideally a digital input (e.g. ARINC429 protocol).
Indeed, the pump will not be piloted directly by an operator but through the aircraft avionics.

@Francois CHERY Will the pump be allowed to drain? Is this the ideal storage state? Or will some (non freezing) working fluid remain in the pump. This effects the ability to prime. It was asked if we needed to design the motor. Sounds like we can specify a manufactured drive motor but total build needs to be within "4 kg" and "2 Liter build volume" including motor. Another useful item that should be mentioned would be the water line fittings you want the pump to mate to. For example a link to the fitting on a parts catalog like https://www.mcmaster.com/mva/library/20110822/3861t810l.gif or a resource with a picture is easiest for understanding.

@Nathaniel Andresmooi: both design solution are equally acceptable: either the pump drains fluid so that no adverse effect of freezing is feared or the pump design retains some fluid and is freeze resistant.
Water line fittings are free to select as long as it fits the 6 to 10 mm (approx. 1/4 to 3/8 inch) water line internal diameter for input and output.
With respect to drive motor design, it is not mandatory to design this part but it is expected to identify off-the-shelf equipment and to design the proper interface with the pump itself.
