nice challenge i would participate in this comp.

I see on the downloaded specification that the iphone is already placed on the dashboard. Is that the location you want the phone to be or are we free to decide where to put the phone?
tris.d almost 13 years ago
is the included iphone model accurate and good to use as reference?
Tobias Mattsson almost 13 years ago
watch the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBMJNxwGI5M&list=UUzHKTjGEANHl5huRk336JXw&feature=plcp
It will answer most questions.
Tobias Mattsson almost 13 years ago
Would be good to have that igs in a assembly file instead. or atleast several igs files, iphone, cable, interior + head.
Michael Bernero almost 13 years ago
Allen: the iPhone can be placed in any location you choose, as long as it meets the requirements posted above
a3 trion: the iPhone is a reverse engineered model of an iPhone 4 that we scanned in our lab and is acceptable to use for this challenge
Allan: the dock should be designed to fit the iPhone 4

nice challenge Will participate strongly ,,)

We have a ProJet here at work so I might give this one a go (might make a version for my Bionic as well). One thing to be aware of is the ProJet material (VisiJet EX200) is strong but it is not very flexible and will break rather easily. So if you plan on using snap connectors keep that in mind.
Scott Bruins almost 13 years ago
One request could we get some reference photos of the interior of the Prius? Preferably from the drivers perspective?
Hardi Meybaum almost 13 years ago
Scott, love to see you your work.
Danny Tasmakis almost 13 years ago
Hi Michael, is this going to be produced using the ProJet printer or is that just for prototyping, reason being as Scott pointed out, it sounds like there are some design restrictions with this material compared to an injection moulded part.
Michael Bernero almost 13 years ago
Scott/Danny: this will just be a prototype, the print will not be the end result
I have sent the CAD files over as individual models and they should be up soon
Kaspar Kiis almost 13 years ago
We have added some extra CAD files in the specification. Check it out.

I know this is a competition...but can someone throw me a "rendering bone" I don't have the capabilities to render and looking for just a really crude render of my Model......If any thanks in advance. Its the iPhone Holder model
Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
I actually tried but i guess ur version is SW 2012 . . didn work with that :-/ ill try my hand with the IGS :)
3DSolutions almost 13 years ago
Zachary... just do a screenprint (shift+PRT SCR). Open a image program and paste it, then you can crop it to what you want it to look like.
Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
Or simply since your using solidworks, i'd suggest u start using photoview 360. Rendering in that is pretty easy and fun :)
gabriel almost 13 years ago
Solaxis is willing to print the winning model for free!
Pit almost 13 years ago
done!
hope you like it
;)
Blair Hollshwandner almost 13 years ago
Michael Bernero...the description mentions that the mount be integrated into the Prius. Is the mount meant to be an accessory that can be mounted by the owner or would it be part of the Prius dashboard?
Pit almost 13 years ago
I believe that the answer is both... it can be mounted by the owner without being part of the dash... I mean, can be compatible
in this way, it's
Pit almost 13 years ago
possible to comply with the specifications.
Michael Bernero almost 13 years ago
Blair: the dock should be designed as an accessory. No modifications can be made to the original dash, as stated in the requirements
3DSolutions almost 13 years ago
How do you submit a private entry?
Pit almost 13 years ago
sorry, I thought that was a question for all the members
Pit almost 13 years ago
i'm new... not used to this group regulations... I apologize
tris.d almost 13 years ago
michael, for your clarification, is the end mode of production just 3d printing? which means I can design within the freedoms and constraints of 3d printing instead of injection moulding.
Michael Bernero almost 13 years ago
a3 trion: correct, this will just be for printing
ToddAho almost 13 years ago
In your video on youtube you say that you want it to look as though it is a part of the car. How far are you willing to go with that concept?
Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
What will the other end of the connector cable be ? Will it be a 3.5mm jack , a usb or a car charger plug ? I'm sorry I'm not very familiar with iPhones.
Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
I assumed it to be a 3.5mm jack and made my dock in such a way that the other end can be inserted from the top and drawn out from below, which sets the connector in its position. If its not as I assumed I have to make a few changes !
DimZach almost 13 years ago
So is it a part of the car or not?
Michael Bernero almost 13 years ago

Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
Thanx for clarifying michael :)
Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
Is it possible to get a model of the other end of the connector michael? If not then jus the dimensions of the outer profile for that usb plug will do . . I need accurate measures to see if i hav to make some heavy changes or not . .
Michael Bernero almost 13 years ago

Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
Thanx for that michael . . I guess ill have to make some changes :( still I didn't expect to get this so quick :) Much appreciated !
Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
Michael: I modeled my dock attaching it to a vacant place in the dash. Now if i look at images of the Prius interior i find there are a few buttons there too :( But i'm not sure if those buttons are common for all the models. Would you be able to suggest if i need to alter that further ? The model in question is iPhone Dock v5.0

Tobias Mattsson almost 13 years ago
Amos: I looked at the photos of the real panel and it seems that there is some kind of button on the place where you have put your dock.
Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
Thats unfortunate mate, ill try connecting it to the dash jus below the bottons and add another revision. Still If those buttons are there then i'd feel my work isn't upto my satisfaction . . must work one another variation !
Vadim Doman almost 13 years ago
If I was an owner of PRIUS and if I would have such iPhone holder installed, then I would actually like it to be able to move... If I am about to use google maps as a GPS then I would love iPhone to be placed horizontally...
Tobias Mattsson almost 13 years ago
Google uses vertical view for its map app at iphone for some reason. Thats what i heard from iphone users anyways. Me myself im a andriod user.
Amos Roger almost 13 years ago
Done like i said. I've added a revision !
Pablo Mora almost 13 years ago
Hi all. I am new using the GrabCad. I uploaded a model with the intention of been part of CHALLENGES= Konica Minolta iPhone dock for Toyota Prius. Nevertheless, when I was uploading the model I couldnt find the way to put my model on the contest. Could someone help us?
3DSolutions almost 13 years ago
Pablo... If you scroll up on this page (challenge page) there is a blue button on the right side, towards the top that is for submitting to this challenge. I'm not sure if you have to re-upload or if there is some other way to link your uploaded files. I'd suggest just re-uploading everything in the appropriate location.
3DSolutions almost 13 years ago
Franze... go into edit file and click on the rendering that you want to be your default. It will show a blue outline on that picture when it is the default (main picture).
tris.d almost 13 years ago
Same with mine. It uploaded but is not visible with the entries
Jordan Stephens almost 13 years ago
Hi! If anyone can help me out with this that would be great... I entered my a design, but I had previously uploaded another model with the "iPhone" tag, and it is that model which seems to be shown as an entry, and not the one that should.
ZAN almost 13 years ago
almost the same problem as Jordan. 2nd design, loaded a fiew hours before the dead line, not shown as challange entrie. Only first(
Kaspar Kiis almost 13 years ago
