Show off your skills and solve real design problems
Our challenge is for you to design our new product, It is a silicon bracelet that will communicate with other bracelets to help people connect.
Amico is a stylish bracelet that brings social networks to life. It connects you to relevant people in real life without interfering with your normal behavior and maintaining the emotions of meeting a person for the first time. Setting up Amico is easy with the Amico App. Simply login with your favorite social network then let it find your matches for you. On a match it will alert you, giving you the chance to icebreak with new people creating serendipitous, non-manufactured meetings without a network.
In the specifications you will find an illustration of the computer board that needs to fit inside the bracelet design at the top. It will also need 100 maH of li-polymer rechargeable battery power. This can be one or a combination of two batteries.
We have also included a logo that should be incorporated into the design and by the use of LEDs should light up.
The overall design we leave up to your creativity, but take in mind this product will be worn by both men and women.
Good luck, we can wait to see your designs.

Not 100% sure of what the end product should look like though, have been looking through the spec. But its a pc that fits into a bracelet? where is the monitor?

I think it's not clear the design brief

I have read the requirements and I have seen the specification and I am still not clear on what I have to do for this challenge. Additional explanations are needed.

In the specifications there is an illustration of the computer board that will need to fit in the silicon bracelet design at the top. Attached to the board we need 100 mah of li-polymer rechargeable battery power. This can be one or a combination of two batteries. We also would like the logo supplied to be incorporated into the design and be able to use LEDs to light up. As far as anything else we are leaving it up to your creativity.

The overall bracelet should be silicon, but you can have parts that might not be silicon.

We've updated the challenge to make it a bit clearer.

a watch with just one button? no screen? or additional functions? can we add functions?
Mohomed Nusry almost 13 years ago
I have the same question as Ricky.
Is it only contain a mini USB and a button as inputs?
Is it contain a display? or else an infrared unit to output?
A brief introduction on working principles of this device will be appreciated.

"Simply login with your favorite social network then let it find your matches for you. On a match it will alert you, giving you the chance to icebreak with new people creating serendipitous, non-manufactured meetings without a network."
What does this even mean? Lots of people complaining about the information provided, you really should express your idea more clearly.
RF_Design almost 13 years ago
This is actually a lot more information than most companies are willing to share for an outsourced product development project – stop whining, be creative and solve problems… ;)
Veleckovik Design almost 13 years ago
If we don´t know what the product is supposed to do, how can we be solving problems?
Veleckovik Design almost 13 years ago
Battery info is not that hard to find. There are many shapes and sizes, for example, a 110mAh battery has the following size: 5.7x12x28mm. 2,65g. Should be easy to integrate since it is quite small.
Mohomed Nusry almost 13 years ago
Yes, battery is not a problem at all as said by Veleckovik Design. What battery you are going to use depends on your idea.
I've gathered several battery sizes. You people may use them with your designs.
T x W x L
4 x 12 x 30 (100mAh)
4.8 x 10 x 30 (100mAh)
5.0 x 12.5 x 16.5 (50mAh)
These are the smallest I found so far. There maybe more if you can spend some time on internet.
Hope it helped :)

The bracelet will help you to connect with the people you want to meet. It is not a watch, and does not have a screen. You upload a profile to the bracelet via the Amico App, by logging in with your favorite social network. You then set what you want the bracelet to search for in other people. When the bracelet matches to another bracelet that met your search requirements both bracelets will light up and vibrate to identify that a match has been made. It is then left up to you to connect and talk with this person to get to know them. There by creating a real life connection.

@RF Designs Thanks
@Tobias Here's an example of how it might work. Say we never knew each other and met for the first time somewhere. These bracelets had been plugged into a computer earlier and have lists of our networks. When we meet, the bracelets would come into contact with each other and a light would blink - recognizing that we have a mutual friend or colleague on Facebook, Linkedin....etc. At this point, we'd probably have a conversation about who we both know.... a pretty interesting product I'd say.
Tobias Mattsson almost 13 years ago
Thanks for the info about the bracelet, this will help when making the product.
Sean Eliseev almost 13 years ago
The designs are looking fantastic. Just want to warn everyone please make sure to incorporate the requirements into your designs. Karl Bigwood has incorporated a diagram of how the required components fit in his design, this is very helpful.
Danny Tasmakis almost 13 years ago
Hi Sean, cool concept, I was afraid that meeting and talking to people face to face would be a thing of the past, it's about time someone's trying to make the true meaning of social networking happen......where you actually meet a person, in person. Kudos to you!
In regards to the bracelet, are the components going to be over moulded with silicon or assembled after moulding?
projectds almost 13 years ago
Hi, why 50% of entries are glossy? Remember, it's made of silicone
tris.d almost 13 years ago
what is the button's function? power switch or something else?
Hevi almost 13 years ago
@a3_trion - good question...

We love the enthusiasm from the GrabCad community for helping us design our product.
Just one suggestion, when designing it think about if YOU would want to wear it, and if it is something you would wear ALL the time.
Sean Eliseev almost 13 years ago
Please make sure you are using the requirements when designing the bracelet, some of these designs do not have space for our required components and they will not be considered.
Kaspar Kiis almost 13 years ago
Thank you to everybody for participating in the challenge. Can you please make sure you have your entry listed in http://grabcad.com/challenges/silicon-bracelet-design-challenge/entries If no, please send me an e-mail to kaspar@grabcad.com and I will take care of that. Winners will be announced during 1 month but still asap.
