I’ve been using AutoCAD since 1992 with release R11. I’ve used many versions of AutoCAD, including 2006 on my own time, at home. I started using Inventor in 2005 with, I think, release 7. I’m currently using Inventor Professional 2012. I also have Alibre Design v12 but I don’t use it that much. I had a copy SolidWorks 2006/2007 (student version) but it expired and I have not been able to get in to it since. The type of the work I have done is, electrical, structural steel & concrete, piping and mechanical, although, my passion is automotive and aircraft. Since I am currently between jobs, I’m using AutoCAD to produce 2D drawings of the P-40 Warhawk from seventy year old factory Curtiss Wright hand drawn drawings, and Inventor to produce a parametric model for machining and assembly. Working with these hand drawn drawings, I find it amazing how those people designed and built those aircraft seventy to seventy-five years ago. I have to wonder what the engineers and designers could have done if they had the tools that we have available to us today.
