biography

Design is something that excites me. No two briefs ever being the same, the challenge of creating something new motivates me. I enjoy solving design problem and do it to the best of my ability. I constantly reassess my design to improve what I am working on to hone my design skills. This fixation drives me on, to succeed in the industry, growing as a designer and gaining experience in the business world. Experience- 2009: 1 week work experience at McLaren. An insight into what goes into the design and production of a F1 car. This included watching the various technicians at work producing and testing the many components, been shown the various materials used and understanding why these particular materials were chosen as well as getting first hand experience of the manufacturing and production processes. Within this I got the unique opportunity to try my skills in the Spray-booth, help assemble a gearbox and engine, work with carbon fibre to create items using their autoclaves and help on the assembly line of their road car, the Mercedes SLR McLaren. I also got to meet the drivers (Alonso and Hamilton) as well as Ron Dennis, the CEO at that time. 2010-2013: A diverse range of live university projects including two live projects: Mira Showers - the design of a shower unit aimed at the young professional market John Piper (previous lead engineer at ‘Williams F1’) - Designing an exhibition stand for a prototype scooter he was looking to take to market. Our brief was to create a brand identity for them, this included logo’s, colour schemes and creating who Piper Moto are going to be. These experience have developed my knowledge in market research, design development, model making, CAD and my oral and visual presentations. June 2013 - March 2014 Touch - From January I freelanced at a packaging/product design company called Touch Pack Design. Here I helped out on project briefs, branding and CAD work (Solidworks, Adobe Suite) Smint - In February I worked for a company called Brand Buddies. There I represented Smint as a brand ambassador, getting the brand well known and improving there brand identity. Tenet Design - In March-April I freelanced for an interior design company called Tenet, creating their visualisations and CAD work using Rhino and Solidworks. These are the Visuals they took to the client before going ahead with the build. May 2014 - November 2015 Cognoscenti - A small but well established company which designed bespoke point of purchase displays for blue chip brands. Here I designed units as diverse as drinks trolley’s for Odeon and Vue cinemas to floor stands and hero units for Airfix. Being the only designer at Cognoscenti, my role involved designing, visualising and preparing engineering drawings for manufacture. I was responsible for communicating directly with clients and attending meetings. I also liaised with the manufacturers on a technical basis and prepared cost sheets for each project. The company unfortunately was forced into liquidation on 2 November. During my experience at this company I feel that I have grown more con dent in client liaison, understanding design briefs and costing projects which has lead to always receiving good client feedback. I’m seeking to extend my experience by working as part of a design team.

Workstation specs: Communication: I am confident to visually communicate my ideas through sketching, Photoshop and model making as shown in my portfolio and online work: (http://www.coroflot.com/ConnorTemple) I understand the importance of working with the client throughout the design process, producing research driven ideas that are validated by the client, which is achieved through two way communication. I am accustomed to research projects using a range of different sources in order to provide solutions into materials, manufacture methods and deliver the product cost effectively. This is something that I do on a regular basis for each of my design project. Sociability: I believe my social skills have been Improved greatly through working in a restaurant called Bluebeckers, Hampton Court. Here I have learnt how to work as a team member and deal with situations with people I have never met. I believe this has given me the confidence to be more outgoing, always ensure I have an approachable manner, showing friendliness, understanding and politeness.
