Hello! I'm a mechanical engineer who recently retired after 35 years in the computer storage industry, followed by two years in the alternative energy field, working for both wind and solar companies. I'm a 1977 graduate of WPI, a small but very prestigious technical university in the Northeast. I have a very diverse background, including both product and capital equipment design, analysis, testing, system dynamics, rotating machinery, FEA, and CAD. I'm an expert user of both PTC Creo (and its predecessors) and Solidworks, including the FEA packages associated with each system. I've designed assemblies and components in both steel and aluminum, cast and machined, stampings, sheet metal, and injection molded parts. My designs have always been highly regarded as being of the highest quality; robust, original, creative, functional, and executed on time. I firmly believe in measuring twice and cutting once, and I always deliver a thorough documentation package, complete with tolerance analysis. All my drawings are GD&T compliant with ASME Y14.5M - 2009. I retired due to chronic back problems that prevent me from sitting or standing more than a few hours per day, but I can work a few hours at a time. If you have a smallish job that isn't time critical, but requires an expert hand to be successfully executed, please contact me. I charge a very reasonable rate considering my skill sets and experience level. I'm considered very easy to work with - respectful of and open to others' ideas and opinions, always seeking team consensus when committing to a design path.

Seagate Technology Senior Staff Engineer August 1986 - May 2009

Designed assemblies and components used in server-class disk drives. Work included design of aluminum die castings, precision injection moulded parts. steel stampings, FEA, dynamic and modal analysis, vibration testing, and CAD layout of top-level assembly. Used Pro/E and Seimens NX CAD extrensively.

Evergreen Solar Mechanical Engineer August 2009 - August 2010

On one-year contract to design innovative solar panel line. Work included optimizing frame profiles to achieve maximum stiffness using minimum material. Created FEA model in Solidworks Simulation that accurately captured failure mode of a glass panel pushing through an aluminum frame under heavy snow loads.

Vestas Design Engineer August 2010 - May 2011

Worked with Chief Technologist to design a rotor magnetizer assembly for 3 MW generator.
