Try designing a basic car and get familiar with the proportions of the wheels to the body. What program are you useing?

Sir,I am using solidworks 2016, but soon i will switch to Nx Uni graphics and how can i get blueprints of basic car.

I build all of my cars as solid models starting with a block and slowly cutting away till I get a good shape. The more advanced method is using surfaces to build them. I am not so experienced with using surfaces however.

I start with a block

then cut out the body

and then add the wind shield and vents

to get a final result

and after mirroring,

you get the entire car

There are only 2 surfacing tools i use, the majority of the time. Those are:

Surface fill

Lofted Surface

I also mix in solid modeling. This is the 2nd car Ive modeled. The tools aren't too hard to use, but it takes a long time while modeling to get something nice.

What i think would benefit the group a lot would be to create a video of the steps you took in modelling the car.

I know this is a big ask but you have made a very good model and it would be beneficial to see how you approached it.

I would love to, but, as a college senior with an internship, i hardly have time. Also, that car took many, many hours to model. Maybe close to 80+ hours, but i didnt keep track.

I posted a video, from youtube, in this thread that really helped me learn when i first started using surfaces. I have time for questions, too, so ask away.

With the delete face command, any solid body will turn into a surface body. It's easy to replace the face with surface fill, too.

You can also use surface offset command to create a surface, Set offset distance to zero.

Hmmm, I'm using Fusion 360 but I guess most programs have that feature.

Try working with a T-spline or a mesh, it easily allows you to create shapes from scratch and give them a smooth look.

If you want a solid body after that you can simply 'patch' a block and cut through it with the T-spline, as I did with the arches of this BMW.

It really depends on the type of industry you´re aiming and the type of design you are doing.

For example, if you want to model an already existing car (using blueprints) you could you use any CAD software that have a good surface module built into it, even mid-tier software´s like SolidWorks, Solid Edge or Inventor could work even if you don´t high a huge variety of surface operations.

On the other hand, if you want to do conceptual design starting from a sketch I highly recommend you using free form modeling software, otherwise it will be a nightmare to model something good. For this it depends (again) on the industry you want to work: from an engineering stand point you could use CATIA (using the Imagine and Shape workbench) or NX. Also there is Fusion 360, although it´s more limited. Finally, if you are aiming for the design industry, you could go for ICEM Surf or Alias Design.
