Guys I need some help. A basic one. If I need to rotate a Steel plate from the center to move at approx 30 RPM (SS plate dimensions - 3 feet diameter, thickness around 4 inch, weight including the components on the plate approx 100kg). And it needs to be programmed to precisely stop at 8 different angles (points). Which controller and motor (complete specs) would be most effective and efficient? And how much would it cost?
I am thinking of using stepper motor with arduino, but again not sure about the specs and price. Please help!
Thanks in advance.
Cheaper stepper motor + encoder, driver and controller.
I will not help with the controller. It is necessary to take into account acceleration and deceleration.
100Kg is a lot of weight to have on a center motor spindle and could make your motor cost very expensive due to the motor size and torque required Karan. An outer gearing drive system with bearing runners would enable you to use a stepper motor drive system to bring cost down and would enable much better accuracy. Stepper motor control is cheaper and less complicated than heavy duty servo motor control and could easily be set up using and arduino control system with stepper driver.
Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'll change the design to keep the payload from rotating.
I think the way from Xgenetc Jason is a good way. But if you must stop very precisely (< 0.001mm) over many cycles then is better you take a servo motor with driver without a gear. A model from the panasonic minas a6 family panasonic . The resolution from the electronic Gear can have any Any value of 1 - 2 30 per revolution. To keep de payload away from the motor is the best way.
