Michael Umhofer

As Director of Deft CADCAM Engineering I have taken the driver's seat in my career in Engineering and Design. I am taking my cumulative experiences gained in Automotive Design, Aerospace and F1, providing CAD CAM services and consulting that are second to none. The skills, methods and design experience I have acquired over the past 24 years of my engineering career are available to machine shops big and small. The software of choice for Deft CADCAM is Openmind HyperCAD-S. This powerful software is the mainstay of F1 Manufacturing with a majority of teams utilising it day in, day out. I also have extensive experience in design and rendering. I use AutoDesk Maya, Autostudio, and VRED to render designs indestinguishable to real life.

As a Manufacturing Engineer at Mercedes AMG HPP, my responsibilities were spread across many areas of the business. I was assigned to the Project One Hypercar with a focus on producing the ICE and Electric Front Drive Gearboxes. These would be built up in a production run of 250 units (complete vehicles). The components went through many design revisions during the development stage. I was involved in every iteration right up to the fixed design specification. I was also tasked, every year on, with the development and manufacture of the V6 Turbo Hybrid F1 engines and Hybrid Electronics packaging. This was an intense period of rapid development with deadlines that had to be met in order to contend and maintain the F1 Championship Titles. Of which I was with Mercedes AMG HPP for 3 of the 6 consecutive Driver's and Constructor's Championships.
