Any tips for the perfect workstation setup? What to look for? What are the guidelines?

Intend to buy a comp just dedicated for 3D modeling (CATIA, SW & Inventor), rendering (Keyshot 2 & Bunkspeed) as well as VFX (After Effects). What performance to look for? What`s the most important hardware component parameter and so on

I recently changed most of my hardware. Read the blog, I can confirm that it's worth reading it. I went from AMD Phenom II X4 965BE to Intel I-7 2600K (~260€´) and OC'd it to 4.4GHz on a GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 (~110€) by simply increasing the multiplier, everything else is on "Auto", memory, Mushkin Enhanced Blackline DDR3 16G (4x4G pack ~70€) @1600MHz and waiting for ATI FirePro V4800 (1G DDR5) to replace my "old" Quadro FX580 (512MB DDR3)... I use SW only and the rebuild times are so fast that I couldn't even imagine it while using the four core AMD (nominal clock speed same as I-7) I'll probably will also need to increase the PSU from 400 to 650W and I think that's it. For now. SSD is worth considering if you do a lot of things which require a lot of read-writes, Simulations, for example, SW doesn't support SLI, so, a single workstation GPU is better than two lower end GPU's connected in SLI mode. If you're on a budget, consider FirePro V4800, it appears to be the best value per invested $$$, it performs better than Quadro 2000 which is more likely to cost about three times more... At least, all tests on the internet do say so... Can't afford to buy the Quadro 2000 to confirm...
