How can I move my train along a track?

By eli on 05 Apr 20:21 2 answers 1162 views 1 comment

In my engineering class we are building trains. An extra part of the project was to build a track for that train. I want to do even more than that and make the train go on the track. In every other place I looked it mentioned a "dummy track". I don't know what this is or how to make one. I would like some advice. Thanks

Not Sure about Autodesk Inventor. In SolidWorks we use path mates or use coincident of a point on spline of path. There should be similar thing in IV.

In inventor you could use a transitional constraint and move the train like a follower chasing a cam. It may work, or may not depending on your geometry.

I may be able to help as you go along, please send me a private message with specifics when you get that far.
