How many locators are required to arrest the degrees of freedom?

All parts have 6 degrees of freedom; 3 translational (X,Y,Z), 3 rotational (u,v,w).

How many locators necessary depends on the part in question, hence some parts are constrained with a primary, secondary and tertiary datum , whereas others might only require a primary and secondary; ie, centrically located parts with no clocking features.

due to the 3-2-1 principle, you can use to find out how many locators required to restrict the degree of freedom.
