How to blend the end face of gear?

By A K on 02 Feb 13:06 1 answer 139 views 0 comments

Hello,

I am trying to blend the end of the following spur gear profile in SolidWorks, but for some reason the fillet action or sweep don't work. Anyone has any idea how could this be done? You can try it on the attached spur gear. The image of the desired model is also attached.

Thanks.

This is probably the hard way to do it, and maybe not exactly right since I don't know the details of how the gear gets manufactured. To 'fake it' pretty good I went with a lofted cut but it wouldn't pattern so from there generated a solid to pattern and subtract from the main part. One of the key elements is the 'fit spline' used to generate the sketch on the tooth profile side of the loft, this makes a nice single surface patch when lofted. Good luck!
