When you import STL you can set the import option.
When you select "Open" and select the file then you can press on Option button and select from 3 option:
    Import as Graphics Body
    Import as Solid Body
    Import as Surface Body

I think you selected the second.

    Try others.

    As Graphics Body it works.
The only problem is that you can't modify

I tried this method. I need to dimensions in the file. The STL files have too many surface. So I don't open it.
