Is it really necessary for a mechanical engineer graduate student to even complete CSWP ?
suppose I have completed cswa and want to do cswp, but I am not prepared for it. should I go for it or not?

I didn't even try for my CSWP until I was working at year 7. It's a nice resume adder and reduces questions about ability when interviewing.
