Materials and appearances of models that have been downloaded.

By Andy holtham on 10 Dec 14:14 2 answers 0 comments

I am using Autodesk Inventor 2013 and I am trying to use Grabcad to download models and use them in an assembly file to generate a scene (i.e. a bedroom). On the Grabcad site the models are shown with materials applied. When I download models the materials and appearances are usually shown as generic (grey) but sometimes the materials are as they are shown on Grabcad.. I am downloading STEP files. How do I download models with materials applied or how do I change the materials and appearances when downloaded? Thanks for any help with this issue.

On the top of your screen when editing a part you have the option in Inventor to change the color and material of a part.

I don't know if i'm right, but I think that STEP files don't preserve the materials applied, once they are generic solids. To see the textures, the person that posted the model should include the native file (e.g. sldprt for solidworks), and you must use the same software to see it properly.
