You could make a model of rope without too much trouble.
You'll want to use the sweep command.
First create the path the rope will take
Then sketch the rope profile. I'd normally use three circles.
Now do a sweep, and enable the twist along path option. Adjust as needed.

There are some examples in the library which you could see the feature tree of for some ideas.

just as he said, you use the sweep command, after defining your profile and path, then you activate the twist along path option. that should get on the way

SWEEP COMMAND IS THE ONLY OPTION TO MAKE ROPE IN SOLIDWORKS, MAKE IT AS A PART FILE IN ASSEMBLY, AFTER COMPLETING THE ROPE SAVE IT AND RE INSERT IT IN THE ASSEMBLY AND FIX IT WITH TH ASSEMBLY USING MATES. BECAUSE IF YOUR ASSEMBLY GETS ANY ERROR IN THE FUTURE THEN THE 3D SKETCH WILL ALSO GET ERRORS
