Question about designing part in Catia with robust surfaces.
OK I am designing one part which usually have frequently modifications. For me it is much easier to model him in Surface Design rather than in Part Design. So I divide my model let say in four segments. Each segment is grouped in his Geometrical Set, with all features which are used to design only one segment. After when I have some modifications, some of features are connected through Parents/Children link and after doing Update in my tree I am getting a lot of features marked because they influence on features on tree in top-down manner. I am getting errors because everything is connected and I am loosing time on debugging.
Do you have some idea how to avoid this problem?
Your CATIA modeling strategy sounds good, using surfaces and geometric sets and linked geometry. Links are the best feature of CATIA V5 but you have to be careful and use them intelligently.
Some tips on using links:
- always modify parent geometry; never delete and redraw
- always link to explicit geometry (surface, point, plane, line, etc); never link to implicit geometry (faces, edges, vertices, etc)
More tips when linking between part files:
- avoid circular links (Part A to Part B to Part A)
- use Publish
- always use Save Management (unless you have a PLM system)
Thanks for your opinion, and for your tips. Is it better to make extract or boundary on edges and use them as geometry for surface? And also for vertices you avoid them to make on extract line point wiith ration 1 or 0 depending on orientation of point? Also I am using published geometry instead of copy/paste special with link.
