What some criteria one needs to take into consideration while selecting a software for 3D? How much is AutoCAD appropriate for 3D?

    Those software which u r familiar with and know perfectly is the best software
    Every software has its own features all are best like catia, ug solid work etc
    U go for ug or solid work because they r the best for beginners as well as experienced ones.

    AutoCAD is only OK for modeling in 3D. It is mainly used for drafting purposes.
    I suggest you to go for any other software such as Creo, Catia, Solidworks etc. in which you can easily model in 3D.
