I've designed and built a Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) machine for my University thesis (If you don't know what it is, search for Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) machine).
Now I need a software to:
1) Slice my 3d model to several layers (I use CATIA to design and modeling objects).
2) Set laser patches to scan each layer
3) enable to use some professional Strategy for scanning
4) output file be like G-Code to use it (or Drive Machine Directly. there is no limit on electronics system and they can be adapted to any Driving Systems).
Now, I am using an open source software that is design for SLA process (Cura), and after getting G-code from software, I adapt them for my machine (using a second software). but since it is an SLA application Software, there is no Professional strategy for scanning layers by laser.
I guess your need for the software is long past. But I hope we can help for somebody with similar issues.
We at Direct Machining Control (www.directmachining.com) create software for laser machines "DMC". It uses advanced algorithms for fast STL slicing and hatching and controls each layer with hatching angle rotation, actions for powder distribution etc.
There is no G-code or machine code, so everything is intuitive, visual and quick. And all the steps from STL import to actual control of machine is from a single interface.
