How to create a gear with the design intent
A simple definition of design intent:It’s the planning of changes in the future to be easier and faster. In other way you can use a few parameters which pilot others Follow the example bellow to understand better.

in step 8 you write:
-Add radius for the arc r=35mm,
- and for the pitch use “=p”.
- and a relation between the arc and the point of the center line.
I'm following you on the radius of the arc and based on the picture you're suggesting the pitch should be measured from the top point of the furthest left arc to its counterpart on the far right. the last line thought "add a relation between the arc and the point of the center line" is very vague. What kind of relation? Where on the arc? where on the center line?
I'm sorry if these are all obvious answers, I'm still learning solidworks, not to mention gears.

in step 10, i can't insert the global variable "z", why?
@ Waleed najjar
if you have the variable "z" in the equations.
you write write "=" then choose "z" in the list as shown in the picture
I am too facing the same problem, I am using 2012 version
I had the same problem as Waleed. When I type = into the number of instances box I don't have the option to choose my global variables.
wich version of solidworks you have
Hello, in step 8 why radius for the arc is r=35mm?
in fact we need to create a differential geometry of curves (an involute) but it wasn't the goal for this tutorial and this is even used in CAD library, but not for manufacturing, so I used r=35mm to simplify.
Any easy steps for bever gear?
hi dear all,
currently i am using solidworks-2010, so in this version " Equation " option is different. please anybody Explain me .
Funciona!!!! Hay que conocerle los trucos a SolidWorks, me costo bastante pero por burro, podrian hacerlo mas a prueba de newbies.
It Works!!!! It's necesary to know the trick, but it works flawlessly, It was hard for me, but that's for being DUMB :P
Euhh this will run horrible. Look up Involute gear profiles.
