Activate SolidWorks 2017 RealView Graphics on an Intel CPU

Small

Activate RealView Graphics on an unrecognised Intel graphics card, e.g. my Intel(R) HD Graphics 620 card on my Lenovo IdeaPad 320 laptop.

  1. Step 1: Find graphics card name:

    Search tool > Device Manager > Display adapters > drop down to display graphics card name e.g. “Intel(R) HD Graphics 620”

  2. Step 2: Add your graphics card to the register:

    1.      Search tool > Regedit

    2.      Regedit > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > SolidWorks

    3.      SolidWorks > Solidworks 2017 > Performance > Graphics > Hardware

    4.      Hardware > G12Shaders > Other

    5.      Presuming your graphics card isn’t any of the ones listed;

    Right-click “other” > New > Key

    6.      Rename “New Key #1” as your exact graphics card name, e.g. “Intel(R) HD Graphics P 620”

    7.      Right-click the new folder you just made > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value

    8.      Rename “New Value #1” as “workarounds”

    9.      Right-click “workarounds” > Modify… > and put “8” as the Value data (with the base in Hexadecimal) > OK

    Confused? Similiar video for NVIDIA/Radeon cards:

  3. Step 3: Test:

    Startup Solidworks again and RealView graphics should now be an option!

    I'm not a fan of RealView, but great job figuring out how to get it to work, and making a tutorial.
