How can I merge two or more surfaces together to have one surface?

Maybe this solution is too easy, but you only need the JOIN command

  1. Step 1:

    more than 40 surfaces

  2. Step 2:

    pick the JOIN command

  3. Step 3:

    select all surfaces

  4. Step 4:

    result: JOIN (one surface"

  5. Step 5:

or if you need a "dumb" surface
    create datum mode

  6. Step 6:

    again the JOIN command

  7. Step 7:

    one "dumb" surface

I have imported geometry from part modelling of CATIA V5 as .stp to ANSYS workbench.
I need to apply bolt pretension on the shank part, here it needs only one surface. but the problem is that CATIA model creates 2 surface halves on the shank part instead single surface that i needed.

it is required to have only one surface the whole shank part.. How? please help me
