How to draw a Dudeney's Dissection triangle in Solidworks?

Tutorial by trinityscsp

Since I published this model Dudeney's Dissection some people have asked me how to draw it, how to determine the dimensions. It is quite simple.

  1. Step 1:

Draw an equilateral triangle, any size you want, I used 150 [mm].

  2. Step 2:

Draw a horizontal centerline from the middle of both inclined sides. Let's call them points A and B.

  3. Step 3:

Draw 2 vertical centerlines from the middles of both inclined sides down to the bottom side. Two more points created, C and D.

  4. Step 4:

Draw a solid line joining points A and C.

  5. Step 5:

Draw a solid line from point B until line A-C, perpendicular to A-C.

  6. Step 6:

Draw a solid line from point D until line A-C, perpendicular to A-C. The sketch is done.

  7. Step 7:

    Select menu "Features", "Extruded Boss/Base".
Under the box "Selected Contours" select the first part.

  8. Step 8:

    Select menu "Features", "Extruded Boss/Base".
Under the box "Selected Contours" select the first part.

  9. Step 9:

Click the "check" icon to confirm and exit the sketch. Save as Part1. Now save as Part2 and edit the "Boss Extrude".

  10. Step 10:

Clear the "Selected Contours" box and select another part. Repeat the process to make the 4 parts.
