The Finest: Crystal Cup

Tutorial on how to model our fine precious crystal glass.
This is a modeling exercise we do in our SolidWorks courses.
You will learn several tricks to model the ornamented area of the cup.

  1. Step 1: First Profile & Picture Sk...

    We used a picture of a nice cup that we found on the web. We insert it in the first Sketch, adjusting its size as shown in the image. And also we change the transparency of the photo so that you can see better what we do...


  2. Step 2: Cup Hollowing...

    And some filleting first.

    We also emptied the inside of the cup support, as shown...


  3. Step 3: Special Helix Curve...

    To generate the helix that we are going to use to make a necessary surface, we have to take several preliminary steps, and the first one is to create a couple of planes...


  4. Step 4: Helical Swept Surfacing...

    In this step we create the auxiliary surface we need, and cut it with the outer surface of the cup.


  5. Step 5: Spiral "wire"...

    What we really need from the surface is the inner edge created in the previous cut, since we will use it as a path to make a Sweept Boss/Base.


  6. Step 6: Patterning & Cutting...
