This is my version. Adopted a tubular pipe to which a hub is welded at both ends. The wheel assembly is then bolted to the hub. There is a special bracket that is used to locate the pipe on the leaf spring as well as to bolt the strut. A re-enforcing plate is used at the bottom of the leaf spring. The whole lot is like a sand witch assembly were no welding is needed, just two u-bolts on each side, thus making the assembly of the whole lot very easy and fast. The parts needed are very common such as the u-bolts and the special plate is designed to be cut from a profile and then just bent in a u-form. The spacer in between the special bracket is used to re-enforce the bend once assembled.
Yes, I totally agree with you, but 3mm seems a little thin to me in this case!
