do we need that many Pulley in a conveyor system?

Why would we need a pulley to adjust the tension of the belt in a conveyor? Can we just measure a fixed length of the belt instead?

Accepted answer

it depends on your requirements

the takeup-pulley and the two bend pulleys are use to tension the belt. Alternatively you can e. g. pull the tail pulley horizontally (the head pulley seems to be the driven one)

the snub pulleys are used to increase the wrap angle between tail resp. head pulley and the belt. This is often used when the belt is driven by friction between pulley and belt to increase the drive force to the belt.

It's because belts can stretch and wear over time, but need a prescribed tension for proper operation. Some belts can be pre-tensioned and left to operate without a live tension element, but should be designed to allow for a re-tensioning adjustment during maintenance, whenever practical.
