How do i edit 2x .STP files and proceed to mate the two objects using press/shrik fit

I have two objects given to me as .STP files. The first object has a cylindrical top (MALE) protruding out and the second object has a hole(FEMALE) on the bottom of it.

Given that they are both .STP files , how to i edit them such that they are able to mate by means of press/shrink fit. I am using Solidworks 2016 for this project.

I have attached an image with a short description, showing both objects

Prior to assembling, you could construct reference geometry in each of the step files (sketches, planes, axes, etc) to use for creating mates.
