How do I open the downloaded file that i have downloaded and I would like to open to add to my Auto Desk Inventor Program.

When you have all the files in your workspace, change the files of type in the open screen to SolidWorks files and then your Inventor will open the file directly without the need for IGS which can degrade the file translation.
This will work as long as your Inventor is newer than the version of SW that created the file.
