Selection of Machine Feet?

By Aled J Taylor on 13 Jun 14:19 1 answer 232 views 0 comments

I’m designing a delicate scientific instrument that is to be situated in an earthquake zone.
Please can someone help with the specification of suitable vibration isolating feet for it?
The instrument is a spectrum analyser that will be about 4mx4mx1.5m and will weigh about 5000 Kg (3000 Kg will be concentrated in one place).
I’ve been advised not to include rubber (or similar material) in the feet as this may sag over time causing the instrument to go out of calibration.
Aesthetics are also important, as well as cost.

    I think I have a solution:

I'm planning on using ball transfer units (to prevent vertical movement while permitting horizontal movement) and anit-vibration mounts mounted horizontally between the instrument frame and fixed pillars (to damp horizontal movement).

Unless anyone has a better idea.
