What is 3D Sketch On Plane in SolidWorks?

Can anyone explain me what is 3D Sketch On Plane and where to use it & how to use?

I don't want to resurrect an ancient 6 year old post, but I found myself asking this question also.

The only answer I can see is that if you select a plane, and select 3d sketch on a plane, it means that all the sketches that you make (initially) will be on that plane. once you've finished what you need to on that plane and exit the sketch, it becomes a regular 3d sketch that you can then add lines in other axis directions using tab etc.

This means that your design tree is simpler, but also, you can sketch easier because you know the first part is all on the plane you first chose.

Only thing that makes sense to me.
