DOKING is developing an urban electric vehicle. We held more than successful presentations of the project in Geneva 2010, Frankfurt 2011 and Los Angeles 2011. The XD concept shown in Geneva has been upgraded to a prototype for European market, and the reception at the International Motor Shows in Frankfurt and Los Angeles were enthusiastic and eager, even passionate for a number of future customers. With a touch of freshness in design on the EV market, XD concept carries a number of the attractive features, bringing out an additional extravaganza onto a market with not yet defined class boundaries. But, at first glimpse XD concept does bring the notion of first class to your mind. www.doking-automotiv.hr

how can i, insert cad files in solidworks?
Anthony Samboer over 11 years ago
In order to import a mesh file like an .obj or .3ds file into Solidworks you will have to go to Tools, Add-ins (this almost right at the bottom of the list) Tick the box next to Scan To 3D. You can also tick the other box to have Scan To 3D to load every time when SolidWorks starts. Then go File, Open and select Mesh files as the type of file to open. You will then be able to open the obj file. 3DS files dont always import as well as .obj files. As far as I know Scan to 3D is not available in the standard version of SolidWorks unfortunately.
You can download a Solidworks 2013 file here:
http://grabcad.com/library/doking-competition-3d-file-solidworks-2013
You can download a Rhino file here:

Andrei Da Silva Teixeira about 11 years ago
Hi, I just have that show the sketchs and drawings of the interior, like request in the rules . No is necessary no one kind of 3D manipulation or snapshot of 3D. Just drawings in a portrait, right?
Thanks.
Daniel Tomicic about 11 years ago
@Andrei. Sketches are OK, no 3D is neccessary. Just portrait is not enough, please read requirements:
Design complete interior for car with fixed measures which you have to respect.
Only sketch is needed so no CAD files.
Design must include
1. Three seats
2. Driver seat in the middle, in front of two passenger seats
3. Three touch screen’s on dashboard: 12 inch in the middle, two 7 inch, one on each side

Andrei Da Silva Teixeira about 11 years ago
One more question: the dashboard is just the Touch Screens and what have in hers, or everything that compose him, like a ventilation exits, wheel, and othervx
Daniel Tomicic about 11 years ago
@Andrei dashboard must have all usual parts like ventilation exits, wheel, etc.

NJoyDesign about 11 years ago
Hi, is there a model where at least the windows can be a separate object/layer? It's not much use as it is, really. Alias user here
Daniel Tomicic about 11 years ago
@NJoyDesign unfortunately this is the only 3D model we have.
NJoyDesign about 11 years ago
Daniel, may I ask another question? Am I right to understand that the 12" screen is to replace the dials? If so, does it really need to be that big? There is also the matter of "touch" - if it's acting as dials behind the steering wheel, then it's quite complicated for it to be touch enabled - access is the issue. If it's further behind the steering wheel, then again, there is the access problem. It's just hard for me to see how it will work ergonomics-wise when it's in the middle, unless it is inbuilt into the steering rack.
Honestly, I would be really grateful if you could give me some information regarding all of the three screens - what is the planned function set for each of them. It would really help the design process.
Thank you,
Ivan
Daniel Tomicic about 11 years ago
@NJoyDesign Size and position of all three touch screens are fixed and cannot be changed. Central screen function is identical to any car and two side screens will have functions that are found on central pillar in majority of cars.
Dennis yu about 11 years ago
do all the touchscreens have to be rectangular?
Daniel Tomicic about 11 years ago
@Dennis yu Yes
Dennis yu about 11 years ago
is it 7inch or 17 inch for the two on the side? on the brief i downloaded it says 17 inch, one on each side. you might want to clarify this .
Daniel Tomicic about 11 years ago
@Denis yu Center screen is 17 inch, two side ones are 12 inch.
Dennis yu about 11 years ago
Okay.. hope you're sure about this because a month ago you commented saying: 3. Three touch screen’s on dashboard: 12 inch in the middle, two 7 inch, one on each side."
Darko about 11 years ago
yea so is it 17 in middle or 12 inch is ???

@Nenad Negrievski. XD is electric vehicle so there is no gear shift.

Hi, is the deadline any particular time on the 1st of March (last time zone)?
Dennis yu about 11 years ago
@Daniel, Grabcad isn't letting me upload the submission. Tried several times. Could I submit it via email?
Sara Sigel about 11 years ago
For access to private uploads, contact challenges@grabcad.com. We will get you access within a few hours so please plan accordingly.
David Gatfield about 11 years ago
Hi I'm a little confused, I've been working towards a deadline for 1st March 2013, 11:59pm UTC which is 1 day and 17 hours away??? This website says there is only 17 hours left - this is not ideal!
David Gatfield about 11 years ago
Some feedback about the above deadline issue would be helpful thanks. I'm contemplating on doing a very late night to get my entry in before the website clock ends however, regarding the actual time set in the contest rules - would be better to work towards so I don't have to rush my work. thanks:-)
Sara Sigel about 11 years ago
I have extended the clock for the competition to match the deadline of 01 March 2013 at 23:59pm. Sorry for the confusion - I hope this makes the deadline clear for all.
Jenny about 11 years ago
Hello Sara,
I want to upload files to the Doking competition but can't see the private project option anywhere. There is only one option: upload files, publish and than it becomes public right away. I am a grabcad insider. Is this some kind of a bug. Tried chrome and explorer. Updated my flash.
Please help!
Thank you
Sara Sigel about 11 years ago
@Jenny Looks like your private access had expired- you are all set now.
Miljenko Pretković about 11 years ago
Hi there,
still can't upload private entry. Can you fix this in next, say, 12 hours?
Maciek about 11 years ago
There is no option to make entries private. Is this part of the challenge?
Sara Sigel about 11 years ago
Everyone will receive access to private uploads upon request. It takes some time to give you access through our system. The fastest response is through challenges@grabcad.com. Please ask for access now so you have time to upload and arrange the details of your entry before the deadline. Just to be clear, there is no technical difficulty. I will be happy to assist you if you have any trouble setting up your entry.
Sara Sigel about 11 years ago
Do not worry if the entry count does not increase when you add you submission in the last few hours we have before the deadline, there is a delay and it does not mean your upload was unsucessful. You can check to see if you're submission uploaded successfully here: private.
Maciek about 11 years ago
It WORKED!
I had no idea you had to request private upload access.
If you have trouble uploading private, please REQUEST and they will make it work...
Thank you Sara for your prompt response and help with making this work!
Sara Sigel about 11 years ago
Thanks for the feedback @Maciek - we will work to make it more clear for future challenges!

Hi, how do I view the Doking challenge results and entries?
Sara Sigel almost 11 years ago
Congratulations to the winner and honorable mentions!!!
NJoyDesign almost 11 years ago
would be very interesting to be able to see the winners... and other entries
Sara Sigel almost 11 years ago
You can view the winners via the results tan @NJoyDesign. All entries are now welcome to make their work public for this Challenge - show off your work to the Community!
Miguel Rodríguez almost 11 years ago
First Congratulations for the winners.
But I think that NJoyDesign is right, would be interesting to see all the projects of the Interior Design Doking challenge, I have just seen the projects of the winners and I cant understand like this projects have won if neither accepted the requirements when others that worked very hard respected the rules.
Why are there requirements then? And Jury?
What do you think Sara?
Sara Sigel almost 11 years ago
Anyone who would like to make their work public is free to edit this in the model settings. In fact, this is encouraged so you can all see, share, and learn from the other entries! I think the winners did an excellent job and deserve congratulations - the jury selected their favorites and have a personal stake in picking entries that follow their requirements, are high quality, and offer something special.
The best way to resolve any questions about requirements is to get involved and start a conversation with the jury at the very beginning. We added a longer period for this in future Challenges based your feedback. So thanks!
Miguel Rodríguez almost 11 years ago
Thanks for your reply Sara.
I think that if the Contest or Jury put a serial of requirements...after in the selection of the winners, the jury must apply for these requirements, so the jury should not "follow their requirements" as you say: they should follow requirements of the contest because otherwise the all people that have been working for a longer time very hard never will get a prize.
Maybe my project wasnt the best but I read the rules to do well my project.
The jury should be more professional and should know that many people spent much time and effort in these contests.
I think that it is a great mistake, that the contest should correct and so everybody that participated in this contest should know it.
