Tutorial to use emboss feature in Autodesk Inventor.
Step 1
I'll be explaining to use this feature using a spherical model. However this can be useful in many other irregular surfaces also.
Step 2
Create a plane offset from the original planes at a distance greater than the radius of the sphere.
Step 3
Enter the dimension. Click OK.
Step 4
Invoke a sketch on the newly created plane and click on "text".
Step 5
Enter the text and format it according to your requirements. Click OK.
Step 6
Position the text by using dimensions. Click ok.
Step 7
Finish sketch.
Step 8
Click on the emboss command.
Step 9
Select the text as the profile. Click on "emboss from face",provide a depth, change the direction if required. click ok.
Step 10
This is the result for "emboss from face"
Step 11
Click on "engrave on face". click ok.
Step 12
This is the result of "engrave on face"
Step 13
Use "emboss from plane" .Provide a taper angle if required. click ok.
Step 14
This is the result of "emboss from plane" . Hide the plane when finished.
Emboss can also be used to place sketched shapes onto irregular geometry. It is a handy method for designs on the sides of tires (and tire treads) as the 'wrap to face' check box makes the embossed shape uniform height to the surface.
Basically, you use the same method as above except that step 4 thru 6 don't have to be text. The emboss command can be used for any closed profile (such as a profile that could be extruded.)
The wrap to face check box will make the embossed shape (text or other profile) uniform to whatever face has been selected [vs. an extrusion which is uniform to the base plane]
