Stp model to solid model ?

Got a stp model opened using SW.....file has opened as many surfaces creating the model and i wonder if i can convert the model to solid to allow me to apply material types for looking to apply a plastic to assess component weight etc

Anyone any ideas ??

You may want close the geometry and try to join all the edges together into one (or more) closed polysurface(s). If you do this in a program like Rhinoceros and save it as a STEP, it gets read in SolidWorks as if it is a solid (given the fact that the model does not have naked edges and is not self-intersecting). I hope it works for you... for joining edges in SW really felt to me like a painful chore.

You may want to use featureworks addin in SW. There is a tutorial as well.
