How to Start to Mechanical Design

One of the problems frequently encountered by those engaged in machine design is not knowing, or incorrectly knowing, how and where to start the design process. To solve this problem, a guide has been created with the aim of assisting in a more controlled progression of the machine design process.

This work has been prepared based on my experiences in various fields. The steps to be followed may vary depending on the industry served, personal experience, and perspectives. The purpose of this study is to ensure the systematic structuring of an optimal design process.

Machine design can generally be examined under three main categories: Adaptive Design, Development Design, and New Design (Machine Design – R.S. Khurmi, J.K. Gupta). The topics covered in the sections have been structured based on the New Design approach.
Following these topics step by step, and moving to the next stage only after completing each phase, will contribute to the formation of a general machine design mindset.

In conclusion, this guide aims to show how and where to start the design process, while also helping to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the design to be carried out. To all designers and those who feel like designers, my best wishes. Happy Design!
