Static structural analysis using solidworks simulation module will be carried out on a shell roof in order to calculate vertical deformations across mid span of roof due to its own weight. We will define symmetric boundary conditions in solidworks structural module in order to simplify our roof problem to save computational time.

Plane stress analysis will be carried out with SOLIDWORKS simulations. In this simulation tutorial, first of we will carry 3d simulation study then will compare its results with 2d or plane stress simulation study.

Solidworks Simulations I Steel Pipe in Compression. Lateral strain calculation Problem Statement: A steel pipe of length L 4.0 ft, outside diameter d2 6.0 in., and inside diameter d1 4.5 in. is compressed by an axial force P 140 k. The material has modulus of elasticity E 30,000 ksi and Poisson’s ratio 0.30. Determine the following quantities for the pipe: (a) the shortening Lateral Strain, (b) the lateral strain e, (c) the increase d2 in the outer diameter and the increase Dd1 in the inner diameter, and (d) the increase t in the wall thickness.
