Show off your skills and solve real design problems
EOS and TCT Show + Personalize challenge you to design a functional product to be made on an EOS machine.
If you have a product you'd like to build for your company but using various manufacturing methods are either too expensive or time consuming then now here's your chance.
Upload CAD model of your product idea to GrabCAD, together with functional description of the product.
TOP 10 innovative and cost effective product ideas will be selected by a panel of judges. TCT will also show the top 10 designs on its booths at international trade shows and events throughout the year.
The 1st Place winner will also get PR and advertising support, including studio time from TCT Magazine designers and time from the editorial team to help the winner promote the final product. The winner is welcome back to the show in 2014 to show their products and tell their story. 10 hours each of design and editorial time would be included.
EOS will sponsor guidance to convert the design from “concept to production” which includes a full Formiga P110 build of parts.
The material will be PA2200 white Polyamide.
Size is within these constraints:
A) 50mm x 50mm x 50mm
B) 50mm x 100 x 25mm
Entries can be larger but are likely to incur a negative weighting.
You can upload your entry in any CAD format but please include STEP and STL files and also functional description of the product.
The competition is open to everyone. Multiple entries are acceptable. Team entries are welcome - prize will be transferred to team leader.
Tag your entry with “EOS” when uploading to GrabCAD. If you submit through the "Submit entry" button, this should be added automatically. Only entries with valid tag will participate. Only entries uploaded to GrabCAD through the "Submit entry" button on this Challenge page will be considered an entry.
By entering this competition, you 1. Warrant that the work is your original work. 2. To the best of your knowledge, it is not, and has not been in production or otherwise previously published or exhibited. 3. Neither the work nor its use infringes the intellectual property rights (whether a patent, utility model, functional design right, aesthetic design right, trade mark, copyright or any other intellectual property right) of any other person.
-----------------------------------------------
If you think an entry may infringe on existing copyrighted materials, please email challenges@grabcad.com.
Applicants are not entitled to any compensation or reimbursement for any costs. The applicant’s participation shall not constitute employment, assignment or offer of employment or assignment.
The sum of the Awards is the total gross amount of the reward. The awarded participant is solely liable for the payment of all taxes, duties and other similar measures if imposed on the reward pursuant to the legislation of the country of his/her residence, domicile, citizenship, workplace, or any other criterion of similar nature.
We will release the finalists before the final announcement to give the Community an opportunity to "vote" for their favorites in the comments. The jury will take these into consideration when picking the final winner. This new addition is based on feedback from you!
Winning designs will be chosen based on the rules and requirements. This Challenge ends on October 11, 2013 (11:59pm UTC). Winners will be announced by November 12, 2013.
Void where prohibited.

TCT will show the top 10 designs on its booths at international trade shows and events throughout the year.
The jury will be comprised of experts from EOS, 3D Print UK, 3T RPD, Digits 2 Widgets, Ogle Models, Laser Prototypes, Prototype Projects, TCT Show and GrabCAD.
TCT Show + Personalize is the UK’s definitive and leading Additive Manufacturing, 3D printing and product development technology show for every level of interest from hackerspace to aerospace. The eighteenth edition of this exciting event will take place in Birmingham, UK in September 25-26 2013. The exhibition floor features the entire spectrum of 3D printing and additive manufacturing equipment as well as all the supporting technologies and software for scanning, digitising and inspection and for design and manufacturing.
EOS was founded in 1989 and is today the world leading manufacturer of laser-sintering systems. Laser-sintering is the key technology for e-Manufacturing, the fast, flexible and cost-effective production of products, patterns or tools. The technology manufactures parts for every phase of the product life cycle, directly from electronic data. Laser-sintering accelerates product development and optimizes production processes. e-Manufacturing with EOS technologies is a method of manufacturing by which parts for consumer goods, industrial components and tools are laser-sintered directly from electronic data. A laser selectively melts and fuses together plastic or metal in powder form layer by layer until, after the final layer has been applied, the completed product is removed from the machine. Whether dental implants, tools, aerospace parts, lamps or jewelry: e-Manufacturing makes it possible to produce customized products with highly complex shapes which, up until now, would have been inconceivable using conventional series manufacturing methods. Above all, e-Manufacturing is practically unbeatable when it comes to the assembly of bionic structures, innovations in the field of ergonomics (eg medical) or aerodynamics (eg aerospace). The process enables almost fully automatic production and also new production models such as decentralized manufacturing.

I have multiple questions.
Can this be a single part from an assembly?
Does the end product have to be plastic or can it be a metal?
What do you consider a "cost effective" design?

is it true that the bounding box is just 50 x 50 x 50 mm?

Can you provide a datasheet for the material - PA2200, so I can insert it into my build.
Shaman Jim about 12 years ago
I also would like to know if it is a single part or if it can be part/multiple parts of an assembly.

Oooo c'mon EOS!!! Formiga has a build envenlopo of 20x25x33MC!! 5c mis really small. You can't do nothing impresive :-)

Can it be an assembly, or does it have to be a part?
A datasheet for the material would be great, specially I would like to know the malleability
of it.
Does the material and the manufacturing process allow for the wall to be very thin?? What's the minimum????

If one of our projects will be selected by the judges will have any rights over our product?
I don't mean specifically economic rights but also only be mentioned as creators of the object...
and other question...If one of our items will be selected, however, we can make a production on our own at a later time?
Sorry for my english...

Are these the final results? In the description it talks about first releasing the finalists, and then the final results, so that's why I'm asking.

Please let us know your favorite as we choose 6th-10th place winners. Nominate a design that was left out to give them the chance for TCT to show their design on its booths at international trade shows and events throughout the year.

I have a request to the TCT team. If it's not too much trouble, can you send me a picture of my model at the booths at international trade shows? I would very much like to see my first challenge-qualified model printed!
My model is - Handle
and my email is mitko300589@mail.bg
Thank you!
