Thanks to everyone who participated! There were so many unique designs for this fun, impactful challenge. To pick the winners, the judges took an in-depth look at how each finalist stacked up in terms of originality, ease of manufacturing, ease of use and comfort level when using with one hand, and rated them from 1 to 10 in each category (1 being criteria fulfilled, 10 being unfulfilled). Congratulations to the winners!
Choosing the winners was not easy…
Wow, 236 design entries. We are truly grateful to GrabCad for the support and professionalism and of course patience in setting up and then guiding us through the whole process. I can say we have learned from dealing with such a large and professional community: our previous experience was with university students. Many thanks for the lesson learned and how to improve our future design competitions.
Our team of judges came from a diverse range of background: from architecture to graphics to product designer to retailer. And so each judge, judged from a different perspective, notwithstanding the judging criteria.
In the future I know we can do things differently in order to have a better system of feedback to the designers, to encourage creativity and a better idea of the outcome for the design result from individual designers.None of the judges have any direct connection with Heroes Too, simply people we have dealt with over the past several years. They have given their time generously, for which we are extremely grateful.
We would like to impress upon the GrabCad design community that apart form this design challenge, we do very serious work, especially with our school environmental educational program, The EcoPledge: to produce positive measurable environmental impact.
The next step of our journey is to make 3D models of the ranked winners: as far as I am concerned they are all winner, but we had to choose ten and rank the ten. Our sponsor for the manufacture of the 3D models will make samples of 5-7 of the ranked winners.
We will conduct consumer test marketing of the 3D models, to determine the best consumer received 3D model (models), which we will then proceed to produce molding and finally mass manufacture.
It has indeed been our pleasure and with tremendous gratitude to GrabCad for hosting our design challenge, but more importantly to you the community members for choosing to participate with your passion and energy, with this meaningful design competition. An outcome that we believe will be Earth changing because it will be supporting our environmental programs.
Again our humble appreciation to you the design community for participating. We learned a lot and we hope that you did too! We look forward to working with you all on future challenges and hope that you will continue to help us save the earth.
