Hello,

Try .STP or STEP

You will need to get the source of the Tekla file to EXPORT as STEP or STP.

Once you have that, then Inventor can import that and you will be able to work with the model.

I did ask and they said that tekla cant export to step format

Correct, Tekla cannot export to STEP/STP file format but depends of the version, Im not quite sure. I had this issue before, and I end jumping to AutoCAD to get all the surfaces..nightmare

we can convert the tekla(ifc format) file into stp through solidworks. just open the ifc file in solid works and save as stp file. then you you can open this in inventor. but working with this stp file bit tough. try and give your comments

What can a file did you receive first of all? The only way to receive a Tekla model is by giving you a file with extension *.db1. This is the original file to open in Tekla. Then you can do a real question to convert from one file to another one. It could be *.ifc, dwg, dgn stp. I work in many platforms for conversions and I can help you with that as well. Let me know if you still need help on this subject.

You have to import it into Inventor in STP 219 format and in the import options de remove the flag in divide periodic faces otherwise all the faces, cylindrical solids will be divided into 2. If the geometry is simple you can choose ACIS which was the modeling engine up to Inventor 6. Then he bought the ACIS source codes, today from solidworks dassault systemes, and developed it as Autodesk shape manager, but the base still remains that. Any convertor available which can convert IFC Tekla file to STP Inventor working file.. suggest pls
