PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Through a combination of classroom study and assigned lab activities, students acquire essential background information, develop trade skills, and become familiar with production methods and standards common to the industry. Within the lab setting, emphasis is on the practical application of skills. Students will learn to operate a variety of conventional machine tools and computer numerical control (CNC) machines, interpret industrial drawings/blueprints, and use precision measuring and inspection instruments.
Shop safety and safe machine operation
Training on manual and CNC mills
Training on manual and CNC lathes
Advanced interpretation of machine shop drawings and prints
Instruction on writing and debugging programs for CNC mills and lathes.
Training on setups, fixturing, tool selection and offset calculations on CNC mills and lathes.

Skagit Valley College
Associate of Technical Arts , Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanics
•
January 1980 - January 1982
This course of diesel mechanics covered several aspects of the diesel mechanic field. After the first couple of weeks in safety class it was a hands-on learning experience in the shop mixed with a few mixed in class days for specifics such as fuel management systems and air systems.
I personally rebuilt several engines as well as troubleshooting and repairs several others that included Cummins, Detroit, and Caterpillar engines. We also covered manual transmission and clutches. We had also repaired third members and axles.
As a second-year student I was given charge of the class project to totally rebuild a tractor truck that had been in the Mount Saint Helens blast. It was a total engine switch from Detroit to a Cummins power plants then all new electrical and air systems were installed after the frame had been cut and extended 24" from its stock configuration. The truck was repainted and handed over to the owner on time.
As a result of this build, I earned the Departments Honor Student Award.
